Man of the Month...
Each week we will nominate a man of particular distinction to be featured as the Mancard.com Man of the Week. To qualify for this honor, he must personify and showcase what we would consider to be a manly behavior, accomplishment, or quality of character. Yes, this gives us a pretty wide population to choose from - but everything is up for debate.
Man of the week – Van T. Barfoot
“In the time I have left I plan to continue to fly the American flag without interference”
These were the words spoken by Mr. Van T. Barfoot, a 90 year old veteran of three wars, who retired as a colonel and was the recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor.
As idiotic as it sounds, Mr. Barfoot was denied a permit to fly the American flag outside his suburban Virginia home because “the rules” from the neighborhood association stated that a flag could be flown on a house mounted bracket, but, for aesthetic reasons, items like Mr. Barfoots 21 foot flagpole were unsuitable. He had been denied a permit for the pole, hoisted it anyway was facing court action if he didn’t take it down.
Since the story hit the major news outlets, the neighborhood association has obviously seen the folly of its ways and agreed to let Mr. Barfoot fly his flag without interference and honor this hero who lives among them.
Good call folks.
Honor the heroes. Be extremely grateful for the sacrifices they have made. America is a fantastic nation and heroes like Mr. Barfoot are exactly what makes this country great.
This man won the Congressional Medal of Honor. He fought in three wars. Did you REALLY think he would back down from some silly homeowner’s association rules?
Me neither.
